☞There are no reserves. Applications are always open so you may submit your app without a reserve.
☞Please check the Taken page before submitting your application.
☞For information on what kinds of characters are allowed and not allowed, please see the FAQ. If you have an edge-case character, please ask the mods on the FAQ.
☞Players can post their applications once the time/date changes, whether this page has been updated or not. We will be going by timestamps.
☞ Cast cap
Currently five characters per canon. This is likely to rise proportionally as the game grows.
☞ App limit
One character per player per round.
☞ Character limit
Three characters per player (but you can only play one character per canon). For a fourth character, you must meet double AC for that month with your existing characters.

PLAYER INFORMATION
Name: Your name or handle
Age: It's enough to state that you're over 18, if you don't want to share your age.
Contact: PM, Discord, Plurk, email, etc.
Timezone:
Other characters: Please list the characters your currently play in-game.

CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name:
Canon: Please specify medium if there are multiple options (e.g. book, comic, film adaptation, TV adaptation, etc.)
Canon point:
Age: Characters must be mentally 16+.
History: Please either link to or provide a few paragraphs describing the character's history.
Suitability: Rhodos is a horror game. Please provide a few sentences on your character's suitability for the game. Note that they do not have to come from a horror or survival canon, but you must be able to demonstrate that they will fit well in the game setting.
Is this a re-app? Yes or no. If yes, please link to your previous acceptance for mod reference.
Inventory: Your character arrives in Rhodos without their inventory in hand. However, during the first week after arrival, inventory items will appear in your apartment as if they had always been there. Characters may bring up to five items with them, up to two of which may be magical, weapons, or pets/companions (who would not be appable as a separate character). Vehicles and pets may be up to the size of a city bus, but please keep in mind that most of the game takes place within the medieval town center and anything larger than a golf cart will be only able to access the main street, plaza, and outskirts (when unlocked). Clothing does not count toward your items: your apartment closet will fill with clothes from home and is only limited within reason to what could fit in a non-walk-in apartment closet.
Powers, abilities and/or inhuman traits: Your character enters Rhodos depowered and with a human body. However, they can regain their powers and inhuman traits through the Regains system. Please list out the powers you wish your character to be able to regain over time in one of two ways: in bullet points or in levels. Your character will be able to regain one bullet point ability or one level of a multi-level ability per requested regain. All powers may be subject to power level caps, and any powers that might be potentially game-breaking may be permanently nerfed and not eligible for regain.

Example 1: Bullet points
Please include details, limitations and caveats for each individual bullet point.
Levels are assumed to be cumulative. This is a very brief example of a power level structure, and we would expect an app to contain more in-depth details, caveats, and limitations.
Please include details, limitations and caveats for each individual bullet point.
•Flight: duration 20m, requires a broom, unavailable in Nightmare World
•Invisibility: visual only, other characters can feel/smell/hear my character
Example 2: LevelsLevels are assumed to be cumulative. This is a very brief example of a power level structure, and we would expect an app to contain more in-depth details, caveats, and limitations.
•Healing Level 1: Can heal surface wounds slowly on self or others
•Healing Level 2: Can heal moderate wounds slowly and surface wounds instantly on self or others
•Healing Level 3: Can heal severe wounds on self or others, but cannot regrow anything missing
•Healing Level 4: Can regrow anything missing on self or others as long as head, heart, and spinal cord are still present and connected
•Note: In canon, this character can resurrect themselves or others, but for the purposes of the game this will be nerfed.
MANIFESTATION
A Manifestation represents the character’s fears, guilt, trauma, repressed issues, etc. and acts to hurt or haunt the character. This section is to detail this Manifestation as an NPC under player control. For more information on Manifestations, see this section of the FAQ.
Character flaws/traumas: Please list three or more different fixations, flaws, or traumas for your character. These are the specific traumas or personality traits you will use as the driving force for your character's Manifestation. We want to know about the cracks in your character's psyche: Where are they broken? What are their most toxic personality traits? What are their obsessions and fixations? Please list these as bullet points. Each trait should be described with at least 100 words.
This does not need to be a complete psychological profile for your character, and doesn't even need to cover the entirety of their damage, only the traits most relevant to the Manifestation you're creating and the trauma that your character will be dealing with in Rhodos.
Re-application
You can safely skip or delete this section if this is not a re-application of a character who has already been in game. Otherwise, please answer the following questions:
Is this the same Manifestation as your previous app?
Was the prior Manifestation resolved or was the character subsumed when your character left the game?
Manifestation name: However you want to refer to the Manifestation in-game. This can be a name your character would give the Manifestation or one that you'll use OOC. Examples from Silent Hill: Pyramid Head, Raw Shock, Sad Daddy, Bubble Head Nurse
Character trait(s) the Manifestation reflects: Please draw a direct connection to at least one of the flaws or traumas you listed above.
Description: At its base, a Manifestation should be humanoid, but beyond that, go wild.
Attacks and behavior: Please describe your Manifestation’s default behavior and weapons/attack style. This does not need to be a total psychological profile of the Manifestation: they're not a character of their own, they are only a warped reflection of your character's psyche. Again, this should be tied directly to at least one of the character flaws and traumas you listed above. When designing Manifestation behavior, refer to these basic guidelines:
Path towards resolution: This is your character arc in the game, and this section can be as brief or as involved as you would like. Your character need never resolve their Manifestation! Some people will be haunted by their personal demons for their entire lives. This mechanic simply provides a possibility for those who would like to work toward resolving their character’s issues and trauma.
At minimum, please speculate a little as to how your character will mentally and emotionally react to dealing with the Manifestation, and, if they were ever to be capable of facing their own issues and trauma, what would your character might have to do/understand/come to terms with in order for those issues to be resolved?

Again, this should be tied directly to at least one of the character flaws and traumas you listed above. When designing Manifestation behavior, refer to these basic guidelines:
•We want Manifestations to feel more like a video game character, so that no matter how powerful they are still contained by following very simple commands and pathing. If they speak, it is a rote set of responses rather than an actual conversation. Or like a creature from a nightmare, which just pursues and pursues and may be terrifying but isn't actually capable of logic and plotting.
•While a Manifestation will take any opportunity to attack player characters it encounters, it will not go out of its way to pursue player characters unrelated to the character it is tied to.
•A Manifestation's priorities are also influenced by its driving traits: a self-loathing Manifestation, for example, would have no interest in hurting other characters unless they got in the way, whereas a Manifestation that represents the feeling that a character doesn't deserve love would pursue and try to harm the loved ones of a character even more viciously than it would try to hunt the character themselves.
•We see an awful lot of Manifestation apps that are "shapeshifting between corrupted versions of the character's loved ones". While there's nothing necessarily wrong with this, we've noticed that this common type of Manifestations is more likely to get revisions from us and thus we would like to gently encourage players to perhaps consider other ideas.
•This part of the app is where we most want to see your creativity. Come up with a Your Character-themed nightmare monster for us! If you're writing it thinking "oh I have such a cool idea, this is gonna be so creepy", then you'll know you're on the right track.

SAMPLES
Please provide two sample threads for your character from within the last year. TDM samples are preferred
At least one of your samples must show your character faced with their own issues or trauma in some way. We do not intend for this to be a difficult bar to clear: the game and TDMs are designed to evoke psychological horror and to confront characters with their own deepest guilt and fears. We just want to see you interacting with that in some way.
